Oil Processing

Fish oil processing is an important and often overlooked consideration when choosing a brand of fish oil to take.

Most people just focus on the purity omega 3 fish oil they consume or how high the Omega 3 fatty acid content is. Although these are important considerations, you need to know how the fish oil is processed if you want to take a product better for your health.

Just remember: not all fish oils are created equal.

So, let's address the issue of fish oil processing to see why it's a paramount factor for you to weigh if you want to greatly boost your health.

The sad reality is that most products are produced based on cost to the manufacturer first and foremost and not on quality. This is why most fish oil supplement products are made from fish oil that is highly processed.

Most of these fish oils are produced from fish that is caught and then transported in large ocean going tankers. These tankers then have a great distance to travel before they arrive at their final destination for processing.

In addition, since most of the world's Oceans are polluted, maximum purity omega 3 fish oil supplements are rare. Oils extracted from fish can and do often contain PCB's, lead, mercury, and other highly toxic metals.

Now, as any of us know: when you go purchase fish for dinner at the local market, you often do a smell check. If the fish smells "fishy," it's often not fresh. Fresh fish should not have a discernible odor. All of this simply means that fish is one of those foods that needs to be eaten in a very fresh state, and that it goes rancid quickly.

Well, fish oil is no different.

Because the tankers that transport the fish that will be used in many fish oil products have to travel a long distance, the oil is susceptible to going rancid. To prevent this from happening, additives are added to counter and mask the inevitable rancidity.

So, one of your top priorities if you want to take fish oil to improve your health is to look for fish oil processing that happens close to port. Meaning: use a fish oil supplement that is produced from fish harvested and transported a short distance before sufficient time has transpired for it to go rancid -- or for the need for a great deal of additives.

Purity Omega 3 Fish Oil

After processing considerations, you should be very cautious you are using the purest fish oil you can find. As stated above, it's an unfortunate reality that most of the world's Ocean waters are polluted, and therefore, so are the fish.

There are only a few pristine waters in the world anymore that harbor deep water fish (the kind high in healthy omega 3 fatty acids). These areas include: certain waters off the coast of Alaska, Norway, and New Zealand.

If you are not taking a fish oil product that is sourced from these pristine waters, then you absolutely must make sure your product has undergone molecular distillation which is a process that separates the toxins from the oil.

Of course, the best of both worlds is to buy a fish oil that comes from a pristine water source AND has undergone molecular distillation.

Keep in mind that not all contaminants are manmade. Nature spews plenty of her own contaminants. Volcano eruptions that discharge into the Oceans are one example.

This is why the process of molecular distillation is important regardless of the fish oil supplement product you take.
